2025: Bel canto in Todi is born!
This is an exciting new chapter. Along with my American friend and colleague Deirdre Welborn I have set up a new business Bel Canto Summer School.
Nestled in the medieval hilltop town of Todi in the heart of Umbria, Bel Canto in Todi is a unique summer school for aspiring young singers and pianists who are ready to deepen their craft, grow personally and artistically and immerse themselves in the beauty of Italian language and culture.
This is more than just a singing course. It’s a transformative experience that combines high quality training for singers and pianists who wish to collaborate, deepen their artistry, sharpen their technique and immerse themselves in the Italian language. Our teaching team includes internationally experienced vocal coaches and repetiteurs who bring a wealth of experience and professional insight and a deep commitment to nourishing young talent.
The 2025 international students from USA, Australia, China, Ukraine, Malasia and UK attended daily Italian language school classes every morning, singing lessons in the afternoon, and masterclasses early evening with our international faculty from USA, Scotland, France, Finland and Italy. The students gained valuable performing experience singing in a song recital and an opera gala in the lovely salon at the Teatro Musicale and an oratorio concert in the beautiful Chiesa della Consolazione.
Whether you’re preparing for conservatoire or opera auditions, looking to refine your technique, or simply want to explore your potential in a supportive and inspiring environment Bel Canto in Todi offers the ideal place to focus, flourish, extend your repertoire and gain valuable performing experience.

I was invited to take part in 2 international summer programmes run by Dr Mira Yang, director of AAMS International Summer Music Institute (aamsopera.com)
In June 2024 I was thrilled to be artist in residence at a singing summer school at the renowned Kennedy Centre in Washington DC. The weeks programme, working with mostly American singers, culminated in a superb concert on the Millenium stage at the Kennedy Centre.
In July 2024 I then taught in a 2-week Summer Programme in the beautiful medieval hilltop town of Todi in Umbria, Italy. During our 2-week course we put on 4 concerts with the young singers. The text of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater was written by Jacapone, a priest and poet who lived in Todi in the 14th century, so it was very poignant for the young singers to give a performance of this lovely piece in the beautiful basilica of La Consolazione in Todi. There were then 3 further concerts of ensembles, art song and opera which were held in the beautiful salon of the Todi Music School.
June 2024 – It was a great privilege to be invited by Dr Mira Yang to be Artist in Residence at the AAMS (American Asian Music School) (Young Artist Programme at the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC. I spent a wonderful week giving masterclasses to 20 young singers (mostly from USA) who enrolled on this programme. Other colleagues were from George Mason University DC, Washington National Opera and Metropolitan Opera NY. The weeks course culminated in a lovely concert in the Millenium stage at the Kennedy Centre.
