About Me

After nearly 20 years in London, initially as a post graduate student at the Royal College of Music (RCM) and then, subsequently as a freelance professional singer, I came back home to Scotland at the age of 42 to get married to Grant whom I have known since I was 5!! Long story!!

Since then I have had the joy and privilege of teaching singers of all voices and from all over the world both at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), formerly Royal Scottish academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD), and also at home in my private teaching practice in Kippen, near Stirling.

A high level of expertise honed and crafted over many years has given me a keen ear for the subtleties of vocal production and I am very happy to pass on my knowledge in such a way that my vocal students at the RCS are given time to be carefully grounded and nurtured so they can reach their full potential and emerge as the singers of the future.

I have been greatly privileged to have been on this wonderful “singing journey” . I have taken risks, travelled the world, and am now supremely content. I love my job. I love the music and the poetry. I love the collaboration between singer and pianist. I would like to think that I am carrying on the legacy of those who have gone before and sincerely hope that in my own way now, I can make a difference in my small corner.

This is my passion.

I would be proud to think I could, in some measure, be a bit like my own teachers who have left an indelible imprint on my life. I would love to be able to pass on what I have learned over the years and to feel that I was making a valuable contribution to the next generation of young dedicated singers, both professional and amateur, for whom the gift of singing is not only life enhancing to them but also to the artistic life of our communities both large and small which enriches the society in which we live beyond measure. My family

I dedicate this personal statement to my dear Mum and Dad without whom this wee lassie from a farm near Stirling would never have managed any of this. They have been my rock and their constant love, support and encouragement have enabled me to follow my dreams. My sister Angela followed in my footsteps to study at the RSAMD and she is now a professional organist living in Western Australia. She teaches piano at All Saints College, Perth and is also the music director at the Wesley Church in Perth where she has introduced a ‘scholars recital’ programme for music students to perform at services and also at her lunch time recital series. From small beginnings she has extended the work there and the recitals have a large following from the downtown Perth district each time.

My husband Grant is a constant support and regularly welcomes all the students to our home. He provides a quiet and gentle listening ear to many and his wisdom is greatly appreciated.. I am very glad he is there to support me too! Molly our wee “Westie” is invaluable and my students adore her. She loves the music and sits under the piano during lessons!!
